FACTflash: Justice delayed for Chiranuch
April 30, 2012
Once again, Thai courts are demonstrating their lack of concern for defendants. This second judge told us that there were too many documents and other evidence to consider to render a verdict today.
Diplomats from a dozen embassies and journalists from seventy int’l news media attended, along with scores of Chiranuch supporters. Many reporters had flown in from overseas just for this verdict.
Having attended every day of Jiew’s trial, I think there is a bright side. It should be quite obvious this case is a hot potato for govt. They can’t very well back down and find Jiew not guilty after all their bluster. But they can’t very well find Jiew guilty and hammer her with a big sentence.
In fact, if the verdict is guilty, the judges don’t even have the option of appearing compassionate by halving the sentence because Jiew would not plead guilty.
Chiranuch’s case is being decided by politicians not judges.
WE URGE ALL READERS TO ATTEND CHIRANUCH’S VERDICT WEDNESDAY, MAY 30 at 9:30 AM TO SUPPORT JIEW AND TO STAND UP FOR FREE SPEECH.
Venue: Bangkok’s Criminal Court (San Aya) on Ratchadapisek Road near Lat Phrao MTR station, Exit 4. The trial is being heard in courtroom 910 but the case docket number is 1167/2553 in case the courtroom venue changes.
WE LOVE JIEW! WE LOVE PRACHATAI!
