Warped Cathedral: April 17, 2009

—Now with censorship, dns-poisoning and as much CP as ever.

After China, The UK, Denmark, Australia and Korea, Germany now finally approved of a Internet-filter. They have all the same technique and are usable to block as much and whatever site the government want. Sounds to me like there is something huge coming down. It’s not the banning of CP, which worries me, but the further use, who scares me. Like a german pastor said:

“In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;

And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;

And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;

And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.”

Does that sound to paranoid? The most countrys who do this are democratic? Maybe, what about:

“In Germany, they came first for the pedos, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a pedo;

And then they came for the lolicons, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a lolicon;

And then they came for the Nazis, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Nazi

And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.” (I’m anarchist btw, however, no political discussion here please, they are pointless)

I don’t say, that it will happen like I said, but if one little step after another occurs, many people wont notice it. The problem lies not in the law, but in the misuse of this filter. If you still think that I’m a tinfoil-hat, check this:

The text means: “The search for Child Porn and the secure of evidence is exclusive concern of the police” – Sounds harmless, does it? But on the 24th March, the flat of the admin of the German Wikileaks Mirror was raided by the police.Why? Well, the police says CP – Wikileaks is a bad CP-Site after all!

Now to the real background: In November and December of 2008, Wikileaks released secret documents about covert operations in the Cosovo. A pain in the ass for the BND, but they couldn’t do a thing. Well, now they can. The admin was asked to hand out passwords and to shut the mirror down. Later, the domain was transferred to the BND.(Article btw here) (It seems like this was only a misunderstanding, article here.)

And another example: Some fellow blogger, who linked to another blog, which linked to the Wikileaks-Blacklist, was inducted for ‘Spreading Child-pornography’. Should mean, that because he linked to a site, which linked to a site, where Links to CP are posted, he is a Pedophile who wanted to spread this CP. Uhh— Yeah -.- (Article here)

To complete my arguments, I would like to say something about the main argument for this filter:

“CP has become more” – That’s basically it. However, this argument is absing on the wrong interpretation of a study from the police, I think I’ll let this diagramm speak for me:

The red line presents the reported cases, while the blue shows the amount of CP.

Now please tell me that I’m paranoid and this filter is only to prevent pedophiles from getting their CP.

I would like to write about some excerpts from documents, who leaked through, but this would be a insta-v&. You can find all docs on *uknowthesiteimnotmentioningithere*. However, if you’re german, read this documents  thoroughly and you will find out, that the usage of this filter is indeed very vaguaely.

However, the technique, which the filter uses (DNS-poisoning) can easily be avoided by a Proxyserver, so I would suggest you get Tor ;).

OH SHI- Why is there a van outside? Brb, BND–

“Future plans contain blocking of content to protect minors, copyrights and consumer rights, including search engines that fail accordance with corresponding national guidelines and laws. Together with corporate partners, Northrhine-Westfalia administration is developing a high capacity filtering system that is currently tested at the university of Dortmund. Intention is to create an architecture with centrally controlled blocking mechanisms that should be installed on gateway machines to the “foreign internet”. This is a severe threat to citizens’ right to informational freedom. Not to be able to get information about political activity from publicly available sources must be considered a backward step for democracy. A demonstration against this blocking plans will take place on the 6th of April on the streets of Düsseldorf. More information about this action can be found here.”
(Stolen from Quovadiseu, make sure to read this entry too!)

Oh, wow, now we really are on one level with china.

/Edit2:The district government of Dusseldorf county, Northrhine-Westfalia in Germany, is forcing Internet Service Providers to block access to selected foreign Internet sites.

The project started by forbidding access to two right-wing extremist sites hosted in the United States. Fighting right-wing extremist ideologies reaches a broad consensus in Germany; however in this case it is used to gain acceptance for the establishment of a nationwide centralized filtering and blocking system.

What did I say? First the nazis–

Germany Institutes Censorship Infrastructure
Slashdot: April 23, 2009

An anonymous reader writes

“Germany’s government has passed a draft law for censorship of domains hosting content related to child pornography. A secret list of IPs will be created by the BKA, Germany’s federal police; any attempted access to addresses on this list is blocked, logged (the draft seems to contradict press reports on this point) and redirected to a government page featuring a large stop sign. The law has not yet passed the assembly, however five of the largest ISPs have already agreed to voluntarily submit to the process even without a law in place. Critics argue that with the censorship infrastructure in place, the barrier for blocking access for various other reasons is very low. The fact that the current block can easily be circumvented may lead to more effective technologies to be used in the future. There are general elections as well as elections in several of the states later this year.”
